Dr. Temperance Brennan, Forensic Anthropologist for the Province of Quebec, sifts through the grave where the corpse of Sister Elisabeth Nicolet should be. She has been dead for over a century and now a candidate for sainthood.

A strange, small coffin, buried in the recesses of a decaying church, holds the first clue to the cloistered nun’s fate. IF this is not the strangest puzzle that Temoe has encountered in a long while, she is soon at a house fire which threatens to turn everything on its head. Arson and charred bodies are just as horrific

But the mysteries and the strange matters just keep piling up – when they visit an island off the Carolina coast – home to a colony of monkeys and a lot more intrigue for Tempe.

Things can’t get any more strange can they?

Travel Guide

Bbbr put on a blanket and wrap yourself up well for never before have we read such icy jaw clenching descriptions of the winter, a desolate grave yard, and the digging up of a body.

Before you do though, the following chapters take you right out of that cold harsh environment and put you in the middle of a burnt out house where Tempe investigates the charred remains of the people who lived there. description as  horrific as they are fascinating. The contrast of the two types of investigations and the settings are a great way to learn of the work of the forensics in such different ways.

North Carolina and Montreal show the work of the forensic teams  and since it seems to reflect the real life work of the author Reichs, then the dual setting and work is really unique by the changes in setting habits, culture and even language.

The area of St. Jovite,  along with three others, merged and became present day Mont Tremblant. So this is the area that Tempe drives to when she investigates a fire outside of Montreal.
