What you need to know before your trail

Three-year-old Hanna wakes up to find she has been abandoned and her family gone. What’s worse is that the house is locked – with her trapped inside it.

Meanwhile on the Cinderella cruise ship which sails between Sweden and Finland, despite the fairytale name, is the scene of a murder at sea.

Detective Chief Inspector Conny Sjöberg visits the girl’s home to deliver the tragic news but he soon realises that the girl’s younger sister is in grave danger from the killer as well unless he can solve the case. And fast.

And all the while, somewhere in Stockholm, a little girl waits to be found and rescued…

Travel Guide

A murder aboard a cruise ship is a unique premise and a unique setting. The ferries which regularly travel between Finland and Sweden are large and very impressive (we’ve been on a few and it’s an impressive and calming journey – well not in the book obviously)

The sense of isolation and the fact that this murder takes place at sea make it all the more claustrophobic and frustrating that despite the smaller number of suspects, there is still room for error and escape!

A cruise should be a happy relaxing time but this is one of chilling murder and a passenger list where everyone is a suspect. Surely there is no escape on such a cruise?
A rebellious teenager and a small frightened child  – both quite literarily out at sea..

Difficult subjects such as stalking, sexual abuse and violence as well as crimes against children are explored within the cold, chilling peaceful landscape of Stockholm – its social issues explored, battered, examined and painfully dissected.

Starting in 1964 and then jumping to 2007, we spend time on the ship and in that house in Stockholm with a very scared little girl. Other scenes have increased tension knowing she is still in there.

The child’s screams suddenly stop and in the silence she hears her own stomach growling…
