What you need to know before your trail

“Some people are just rotten to the core.” Acting DCI Beatrice Stubbs is representing Scotland Yard at a police conference in Portugal. Her task is to investigate a rumour – a ghostwritten exposé of European intelligence agencies – and discover who is behind such a book. Hardly a dangerous assignment, so she invites family and friends for a holiday. Days at the conference and evenings at the villa should be the perfect work-life balance. Until one of her colleagues is murdered. An eclectic alliance of international detectives forms to find the assassin. But are they really on the same side? Meanwhile, tensions rise at the holiday villa. A clash of egos sours the atmosphere and when a five-year-old child disappears, their idyll turns hellish.

Travel Guide

Attending a conference in Portugal, just before retirement sounds nice right? Well, for DCI Beatrice Stubbs, it sounds ideal and so she combines this with a family holiday. It’s the perfect place for a holiday and the villa she stays in in Porto looks like paradise!

The hotel where the conference is held is in the centre of Lisbon so plenty of time for walks along cobbled streets and small alleyways.  The hotel is a quirky one as it doubles as a school for butlers. Murder is a guest however.

What about here for a holiday villa? There’s trouble in this part of paradise too in the novel. In real life, its known for its stately bridges and port wine production. In the medieval Ribeira district, narrow cobbled streets wind past merchants’ houses and cafes.
