Booktrailer Review

Susan @thebooktrailer

A story of a marriage breakdown but also that of how living in a small village affects and magnifies everything that happens. It was frightening to read about just how easy and quickly a marriage can not only fall apart but implode. What really interested me was the dynamics of a small cosy village blown apart by a failing business and the man at the manor at the centre of it all. I expected the villagers, especially those who came across him at the pub to be a little more angry but the shadow over the village is clear to see in other ways.

As wife Olivia moves on to working in a school, things get even worse but again it’s the dynamics of the village and the effects of job losses on the village that really fascinated. Maybe as there has been so many stories in the news recently and it was a nice touch to see both the changes for those who live in the manor and the villagers.

This is quite a darker book that you might think – for things get much darker still – that’s when the title really kicked in for me.
