Travel Guide

Travel to Amazon and the rubber plantations

A very atmospheric visit to the rubber plantations and settlements along the Amazon river. The scenery and setting are wonderfully evoked and described in luscious detail:

“But to get to these Elysian Fields, they would have to journey deep into the dark heart of the forest, braving whirlpools and waterfalls, snakes and savages, poisoned arrows and piranhas”

The settlements of Lagona and Norwood are rubber plantations in the novel and so are fictional.

A woman moves here with her husband but when he dies, she is forced to carry on, manage the plantation, meet and mix with the locals and learn to live as single woman in a man’s world but also a foreign one.

This is the story of pioneers, of slaves and the way slavery worked at the time, of plantations and the work involved. A fasscinating insight into the world of rubber production.

And the Amazon river, the settlements which is an alien landscape for the main characters.
