2026: In an Italian monastery, an infamous sculptor lies on his death bed.
During Mimo’s final hours, he reveals his life story: his impoverished childhood, his unlikely rise to fame and most importantly, his meeting with Viola, the daughter of a powerful aristocratic family.
Mimo and Viola are instantly drawn to one another. Together, they traverse the unrest of the twentieth century. While Mimo becomes a celebrated artist, Viola fights to claim her education and independence.
Over the decades, they will lose and find each other, but never will they give up on the love they share
Italy
Pietra d’Alba:
this is a fictional Ligurian village where much of the central story takes place. It is the home of the aristocratic Orsini family and home to the baroque church of San Pietro delle Lacrime.
The landscape is luscious: ‘A firework of tangerine, melon, apricot, mimosa and sulphur flowers that never faded and contrasted with the dark forest’.
There are scenes around Italy with the flashbacks and story threads interwoven with each other but the main location is fictional.
