Hampshire
There is no Hareton Wick in the novel but the 1976 heatwave was real and this novel takes that and reminds everyone just how hot and other worldly this time was.
Four Oaks
This is an area around the village where most of the characters walk, play and live. The farmhouse of the novel is here. The child goes missing from the village itself. While Hareton Wick itself is not a real place, it could be anywhere in the English countryside that very hot summer.
