What you need to know before your trail

Set in small town Germany, in the shadow of the Taunus mountains, Snow white must die is a dark story about an even darker deed.

On a rainy November day police detectives Pia Kirchhoff and Oliver von Bodenstein attend a mysterious traffic accident: A woman has fallen from a pedestrian bridge onto a car driving underneath. Was she pushed? Pia and Oliver start their investigation where the victim lived and it turns out that it is also the setting for a double murder that was never solved. Many years earlier, two 17 year old girls went missing – the man jailed for the murders is released after spending over 10 years in prison – at the same time that the first body turns up.

The body of the second victim known as Snow White is still missing however. And the villagers seem very reluctant to talk.

Travel Guide

The setting is an interesting one  – and made us travel to Germany.  After travelling here via the book, we went for real and well, let’s just say we’re pleased it’s not at all grim like in the book. The mountains in particular were a new sight in Germany we had not seen before.

As for the fact that in the novel Tobias Sartorius comes home after being released from prison, well you can only imagine the welcome he gets on his return. Although at least 10 years have passed since he was jailed for killing the two 17 year old girls, the crime is obviously still as it raw as it was.

There are many places set in and around the majestic Taunus mountains such as Altenhain a pretty village normally but one which is not portrayed in the best light here! We doubt this will be on the tourist notice board but then again, it does make you wonder if such a place exists and the account given here is vivid and enticing.

There are plenty of German names here too and you might want to write them down in order to avoid getting confused.
