Honor’s life is nearly perfect: she adores her bright and beautiful daughter, Chloe, and her charming, handsome husband, Tom, even if he works one hundred hours a week. Yet Honor’s longing for another baby threatens to eclipse all that is wonderful – until a shocking event changes everything.
Years later, Tom makes a decision that ripples through their family’s life in ways he could never have predicted. As the consequences of his choice continue to unfold, two women’s paths become irrevocably intwined.
Paris and London
The locations aren’t that key to the story but they do show a place where two main events in the book tie the characters memories to them.
The Ritz hotel in Paris features from the very start of the novel. There are a few places mentioned in passing in the city but it’s the bright lights and foreign holiday aspect that are at play here. A home from home. London is a bit more vague but again, this symbolises home and a place, a city they return to and where their lives ultimately collide.
