Louisiana and in particular New Orleans makes for the perfect gothic background for all things haunted and supernatural. Written with elements of the southern gothic style, this novel has a chilling supernatural mix of all that is wrong with a decaying society. The streets of the city are lined and controlled by the elements of criminality; drugs, gangs,violence and death.
This is a city of two worlds, the everyday and the supernatural – until the two become so intertwined, it’s hard to know what’s real anymore. New Orleans is a city of light and dark. In the daytime, the lace balconies look pretty, the street cobbled and quaint, the alleyways great to explore. The cemeteries an interesting cities within a city. At night however, those balconies are dark and creepy, the streets full of shadows, the alleys leading to nowhere safe. And those cemeteries….well, that’s when the dead seem to come to life….
Then there’s the swamps where much of the action takes place. The Honey Island swamp is an actual place and you can visit for real!
