Various : The Extraordinary History of the Mediterranean’s Capital of Hedonism
Ibiza, also known as the White Island has always been synonymous with hedonism. People go there ready to party and leave ready to go back for some more. The island’s nightclubs particularly in San Antonio are buzzing long after the sun has gone down.
But beneath its veil of excess, there is also a lot of history and culture here too. An island used to invasions of not just tourists but of another kind all together.
The island also has a darker side.
This is the voice of the island itself
It’s not just the tourists who crowd the island looking for fun an a means of escape. Roman centurions in need of a bit of down time between campaigns would go to Ibiza to get their kicks.
The Carthaginians established a cult to their goddess of sex there, and named the island after Bez, their god of dance
Not for love affairs but for people countries have encouraged a certain kind of people who didn’t quite fit in back home to move out there. A playground ironically for those who live elsewhere
And all the while, the sun and the music are in the air…
