Author Malcolm Kempt drew directly from 17 years of lived experience as an Arctic criminal trial lawyer to build the dark and very remote settings in the book. The area is evoked beautifully in many ways but it is described as bleak, troubled and gothic….arctic gothic is now a thing!
Imagine having to stay at the end of the world?
The remote hotel in the book is inspired by the very one Malcolm himself had to stay in when he first went to work in the town. What a backstory to inspire this novel? Who else has that kind of first hand knowledge?
