1928: A child is kidnapped from his bed from a villa on the glamourous Cap d’Antibes
Florence and Julian Livingstone, a wealthy American couple live in their luxury Villa Starlight on the Cap d’Antibes. A villa in Paradise. However, this all changes when, one night, their three-year-old son, Oscar, is kidnapped under mysterious circumstances.
As the case captivates the world and fear spreads, the police officer in charge of the investigation runs up against a wall of lies and secrets. His path will cross that of the young novelist Agatha Harding, who hopes to seize upon the tragedy to write a bestseller..
Cap d’Antibes
The setting are what this make this book so luscious to read – we spend time in a villa set on a cliff on the Cap d’Antibes, a posh and rich area where those with money spend as much time as they can. Villa Starlight is of course, fictional but it could be any one of the stunning villas which sit on the island offering some of the best views in the world.
The Hotel Cap d’Antibes is very real and features in the novel as does the town of Antibes, Juan le Pins and the Cap in general. There is mystery to be found amongst the palm trees and white sandy beaches!
Absolutely superb. Agatha Christie-esque with a case of a missing child taken from his bedroom via a ladder. If you remember the case of the Lindbergh baby, this kidnapping of a rich family’s child is similarly horrific. What follows is a cat and mouse game, yes in paradise, but in a world where there are dark figures and even darker motives.
Full review to come but utterly brilliant – and THAT ENDING!!
