2009: True story of a horrific caving accident
With only three days remaining until Thanksgiving, the day was graced by beautiful, sunny weather. A bright and intelligent medical student decided to embark on an adventure to explore a popular and intriguing cave, which was considered suitable for beginners. Despite everything appearing to go smoothly, a single mistake changed the course of events. Taking a wrong turn led to a tragedy that continues to evoke speculation and terror even today. This tragic incident is famously known as The Nutty Putty Cave incident.
Nutty Putty
This was the name of the cave where John Jones died and so the cave was filled in, with his body inside and the place renamed to remember and honour him.
The cave attracted amateur and professional cavers alike despite its narrow passageways. The Birth Canal was one part of the cave that was popular but John mistakenly took the wrong turn into a part of the cave that had not been explored. He squeezed through several passages until becoming completely stuck. Worse still, he was upside down. The human body is not meant to be upside down for long but he managed to stay alive for around 27 hours before sadly passing away.
