1910 onwards: An abandoned baby, a tiny island and a travelling cinema have a story to tell…
In 1910, a baby girl is abandoned in a shoebox at a convent in Buenos Aires, who the nuns name Fabiola. From a very tender age, it’s obvious she has a special gift: she can find the perfect pair of shoes for anyone no matter what their age, state of their feet, or lifestyle. She becomes a teenage mum to the headstrong Lita.
Both mum and child are forced to flee Buenos Aires as war strikes. So, they flee to a small, windswept island in Canada inhabited by a cast of endearing yet eccentric characters. It’s on this island where they come across Mr. Saito’s magical travelling cinema. It only comes once a year but it brings films from all corners of the world to this small and remote island. Mr Saito’s storytelling changes everything and everyone it touches – in the most unexpected ways.
Puffin Island
Puffin Island is a small island in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, in a navigation channel called Baccalieu Tickle and just off the coast of Baccalieu Island.
The island is inaccessible from the water and provides ideal protection for the breeding colonies of Atlantic puffin that makes Puffin Island their home.
Imagine living somewhere like this – so remote – then having a man with a travelling cinema heading your way!
