This novel looks at the work of a court interpreter who travels from one site to another depending on where they need her services. She works in a court setting, interpreting statements and evidence in very important cases. The work is stressful and highly important. One wrong word, one misinterpretation and the whole case could be turned on its head.
The interpreter in the novel works in ten languages. The author has got the nuances of the work, the decisions the interpreter makes in the moment and the pressure of this work really well evoked on the page. (former interpreter here!)
Working in the courts and medical settings are fascinating!
