Take to the road with a good book!

  • Submitted: 15th May 2017

There’s nothing like the feeling of the wind in your hair, the haze of the sun coming from the bonnet of the car, the smell of the sea, and a road stretched out in front of you……Well you can #booktrail that travel idea right now!

Roadtrip books

Aah there’s nothing like a road trip – travelling and feeling the sense of freedom that you just can’t get any other way. There are some famous ones such as along route 66, through the Australian bush, around the Highlands of Scotland….but what about these book inspired ones?

Cornwall in a camper van

There’s something very magical indeed about a camper van. Sleeping, driving and living in such a small but iconic mode of transport – there’s nothing like it. In this book you get to go to Cornwall and experience it for real…well literary style. It’s a whole lot of fun and really transports you to Cornwall. It’s the perfect way to visit the food and scenery, the local breweries, the beaches….There’s plenty of places covered – St Austell, St Ives, Bodmin Moor – and Daisy James narrates the journey and Cornish capers with humour and a bit of romance thrown in. Perfect!

Roadtrip booksLooking for Captain Poldark

Sticking with Cornwall for a bit….well you get the chance to actually seek out Poldark in this little weekend size break of a book. It’s a quick read which is just as well as the minute you think about him, you’ll probably want to find him for real yourself. Rowan Coleman is the humourous guide here and if you’ve read any of her other books, you’ll know you’re in safe hands. No clues as to if you actually do find anything Poldark like…that’s the joy of the journey though isn’t it?

Over the USA for this one – and plenty of shopping on the way …

Roadtrip booksShopping or searching for your missing father?

If you’re familiar with Becky Bloomwood from the Shopaholics series, then you might think you know what to expect when she goes on the road..well like anything in Becky’s life, nothing really goes to plan and it would be a short road trip if she just went from one mall to the next. So this is more of a journey around  the Nevada desert to a series of locations with all kind of hijinks along the way….

Roadtrip booksBusk your way around Europe – Norway, Denmark, France, Portugal, Sagres

A bit longer this one – but there’s a good story behind this journey – it’s about a girl whose boyfriend dumps her but then whose friend Andrew suggests having an adventure of their own  – busking their way from Norway to Portugal via the midnight sun. This is a road trip like no other – one which is a lesson to learn as well in a way for if life serves you lemons etc…make lemonade as they say…or busk your way around Europe as they do in the book! All that driving across several countries, playing music to different crowds, with shall we say different expectations and musical preferences….it comes with its own play list in a way!

For the ride of your life! – From England to Italy in a Ferrari

Who doesn’t dream of taking the ULTIMATE road trip across the Italian mountains in a racing car? It’s a fun concept – in this story, a woman is left a Ferrari in her uncle’s will, but to earn it, she must take it on an journey across France, Switzerland and Italy and send postcards from various places. Imagine doing this for real!! You end up going across the Stelvio Pass  and all the way to the Ferrari museum. Now if you’re a car lover or not, this is the road trip you will never forget! (Take note of the passenger as well….nice)

Where ever you head off to….enjoy!
