Five characters who would make great holiday companions

BAnk-holiday

There’s certain books you read and feel sad that your time with them has come to an end. There’s  a few people recently that, well have stayed with me. Let’s call them the Bank Holiday Booktrail Buddies!

bank holiday
Kate Shackleton

The no nonsense detective who gets things done and is always on the look out for odd things going on. If you get short changed on holiday or there’s a scam on the beach beside your hotel, you can be sure that Kate would be on it immediately.  She enjoys the quiet Yorkshire lifestyle so she would be my choice of friend to go with me to Betty’s  tea room in Harrogate as she knows the place well having solved a murder near there!

Belle

Having just discovered Belle, and currently spending time with her as a volunteer nurse during the war, I’d quite like to meet her for real. She’s got a heart of gold and has been through such a lot yet always has a smile on her face. She’s make a great friend to confide in and she can always get you out of trouble or a pickle with the most inventive ways imaginable. Yup, Belle’s on my list. She’s been to Paris, New Orleans and New York but it’s home in Blackheath London where I’d like to meet her on her home turf.

Dr Ruth Galloway

This woman does the job I would love to do if I weren’t so squeamish. She investigates dead people, corpses etc during her archaeological investigations. Liviing in Norfolk, she’s given me a real insight into the landscape there and the nature and I’d love to spend time with her on a nature reserve or on a dig. There’s something very fascinating about quite literarily digging up the past and I would quite like to have a nosey around that nice remote cottage of hers. But it’s Walsingham where she investigates here that I’d really like to go with her:

NYPD detective Callum Doyle

Now this guy would make  a great holiday even better. I’d spend time with him on a ride along in New York and ride the wit and banter with the other cops. He’s got his problems like any other person but he’s got something about him that I like. He’d carry your suitcase off the plane for example and know every single thing there is to know about the good and bad places to go in the city. He’s a maverick and I like that.

bank holidayJimmy from The Secret Keeper

There’s just something lovely about Jimmy. He’s mixed up with two women but his heart is in the right place and he does the right thing in the end. Despite there being a war on, he’s stayed in London and is working as a photographer. Interesting hobby I’d like to know more about. Plus he takes the girl in his life to the best cafes in London, likes to sit and talk in Kensington Palace Gardens and enjoys the theatre.
A holiday with him would be nice – a quiet change after being with Callum!
